Important Notes

  • Before pouring the hydrophobic litter, make sure the litter box is clean and empty.
  • It is extremely important to read the results according to the outlined time frames.
  • Please note that the colors on the diagnostic strip will continuously change.
  • Sample can be refrigerated for up to 48 hours before being taken for further evaluation.
  • CheckUp is a single-use product and should not be reused.

READING THE RESULTS CARD

We recommend having a timer and a pen handy so you can circle the corresponding color at exactly 60 seconds.

Please read the notes below before beginning

  • After dipping the testing strip into the vial of collected urine
wipe away the excess urine and place it onto the results card.
  • Wait 60 seconds, read the 4 results, and circle the matching colors.

CAUTION: As the colors on the testing strip will continuously change over time, it is important to evaluate the colors at exactly 60 seconds from the dipping.

For optimal results, collect urine in the morning or 2 hours after a daytime meal.

Learn more about these parameters below:

HIGH GLUCOSE LEVELS

  • High Glucose Levels can occur in cats with Diabetes or Obesity
  • Obesity affects 58.3% of cats in the USA
  • Diabetes affects 1 in every 200 cats in the USA
  • Regular monitoring of glucose levels in cats with diagnosed Diabetes may be recommended by your veterinarian
  • Untreated Obesity or Diabetes can result in multiple weight related disorders, including but not limited to: osteoarthritis, hypertension, many different cancers and kidney failure

PROTEIN

  • High protein levels can indicate Kidney Conditions
  • Chronic or Acute Kidney Failure has symptoms widely unknown to pet owners including bad breath, lethargy, or weight fluctuation
  • 35% of geriatric cats have kidney related diseases
  • If either variation of Kidney Failure is undiagnosed in cats, implications include irreversible damage, bone demineralization, cancers, and other life altering conditions

pH

  • Abnormal pH levels may occur when a Urinary Tract Infection is present
  • Urinary Tract Infections are fairly common in cats
  • Elderly cats, and those with Diabetes or Obesity, have higher chances of bladder infections 30% of cats will experience a UTI in their lifetime
  • Although UTI’s are easily treated, if undetected, they can advance into the kidneys, which can create CKD, kidney stones and cancers
  • Monitoring pH levels may be recommended by your veterinarian if you have a pet on a specialty diet

BLOOD IN URINE

  • The presence of blood in urine(Hematuria) may mean many different problems
  • In cats, Hematuria most commonly indicates the presence of a UTI or other bladder related conditions
  • The presence of blood in the urine can have serious implications and should not be neglected

FAQ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Each kit includes 2 lb (900g) of patented hydrophobic litter, 1 pipette, 1 vial, 2 identical diagnostic testing strips (to perform the test twice) and a results reading card.

It is recommended to collect urine in the morning or two hours after a daytime meal.

By using CheckUp, you can better understand the overall health of your pet while at home. Cats hide their pain and you may not know that they are suffering from a condition. By using CheckUp, you can catch a condition before it is too late.

Absolutely not! CheckUp should not replace a visit to your vet in emergency situations or annual routine visits. CheckUp is ideal for in-between routine visits or for pet owners that require frequent urine collection as directed by his or her vet.

Fully submerge the testing strip square into a urine sample for 2 seconds. After waiting exactly 60 seconds depending on the parameter, compare your color result next to the color legend to identify your result.

Yes! CheckUp is an ideal method for urine collection which will not change any urine parameters. Bring the vial of collected urine to your vet as soon as possible or refrigerate for up to 48 hours.

The quantity of hydrophobic litter provided is designed to create a thin layer at the bottom of a standard litter box used at home. Unlike regular litter, only a very thin layer is required to obtain compliance as sand is the natural environment for cats. We see nearly a perfect compliance rate from our clients.

Certainly! The CheckUp product line is designed for at-home use. You can use a clean and empty litter tray to collect the sample.

Cats love the natural feel, texture and scent of our hydrophobic litter. We observe nearly a perfect compliance rate among our clients.

Sometimes, cats like to dig around their litter before or after urinating. If the urine is covered by the hydrophobic litter, the sample can still be extracted just by moving the litter to the side using the pipette. The droplet will reappear on the surface, making collection easy.

Make sure the tube is sealed completely to avoid any leakage. You should give the collected sample to your veterinarian as soon as possible. However, urine can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours.

Yes. If the sample is properly stored in a refrigerator (for up to 48 hours), your veterinarian can use this sample for a full analysis in a laboratory.

Please contact your veterinarian to schedule an appointment. Bring the collected urine sample with you.

Yes. CheckUp is ideal if you must monitor your cat’s health regularly through urine testing. This is common for cats suffering from diabetes and kidney conditions. Please visit our blog section for more information on chronic conditions affecting felines.

Your kit includes two identical testing strips. Please conduct the test again using the second strip.

Because the colors on the testing strip continuously change, we recommend circling the color that is present on the card at the designated reading time.

If the litter box was thoroughly cleaned before the hydrophobic litter was placed inside, a sample can still be collected. Simply collect the urine from where it is with the pipette.

The urine will stay on top of the hydrophobic litter until it evaporates. We recommend collecting the urine sample as quickly as possible to reduce the risk of outside factors affecting the sample. Additionally, test results can differ – for example, over time the water evaporating from the urine can cause pH levels to change.

CheckUp is a single-use kit. The product should be discarded after a urine sample has been collected.

No. Our patented hydrophobic litter does not change any of the properties of the urine sample collected. This product is based on our widely successful veterinary product called Kit4Cat, which has been used by vets for the last 10 years in over 44 countries. Extensive studies have been conducted and there is no chemical reaction between the hydrophobic litter and any of the urine that beads up on top of it. In addition, several well-known veterinarians and research facilities have conducted their own studies and have submitted multiple samples to commercial laboratories. All urinalysis results were identical between their invasive collection methods and our hydrophobic litter. To view one of our validation studies, click here.

No. The dust is from the hydrophobic litter and will not change the urine sample properties in any way. This dust is created by the granules of sand rubbing against each other. If you transfer the sample to the vet, the presence of dust will not resemble any item they may be looking for in the sample.

CheckUp hydrophobic litter is non-toxic and safe if consumed. If any digestion occurs, it is not an amount significant enough to impart any negative effect.

Yes! CheckUp is made of natural ingredients which are environmentally friendly and biodegradable.

Our patented hydrophobic litter is natural, non-toxic and the coating is biodegradable. Simply dispose of the product as you would any other garbage.

Coastline Global is committed to elevating animal welfare standards in the global pet retail community. Because it is noninvasive, this product is harmless as compared to a stressful collection method like Cystocentesis. CheckUp Test Kit for Cats parameters include: glucose (detects high glucose levels which can be a result of diabetes or obesity), protein (kidney conditions), pH (urinary tract infection) and blood in the urine (reflects a condition referred to as Hematuria which can have multiple implications).

CheckUp is designed to provide a window into the general wellness of your cat. Our parameters have been carefully selected to detect the most common issues affecting cats of all ages including high glucose, urinary tract infection, kidney conditions, and blood in the urine.

The hydrophobic litter is sterile but once the bag is opened and exposed to air, it has a shelf life of 72 hours.

Absolutely! CheckUp is ideal if your pet just finished a treatment cycle and you want to make sure the medicine has worked properly. We realize that going to the vet can be stressful, especially twice in a short period of time. If you see a positive result from your at-home wellness test, please schedule a follow-up visit with your vet.

You should fill the provided vial to ¾ capacity to ensure that all 4 parameters on the testing strip are fully submerged in the sample.

Dip the strip in the collected urine sample for 2 seconds to ensure urine is absorbed into the parameter pads.

In this case, we would recommend that you buy a cheap litter tray for the CheckUp hydrophobic litter. Separate the cats for a few hours so that only one cat has access to the tray.

You can purchase our CheckUp diagnostic testing strips here if you require more frequent testing. We recommend collecting the sample using Kit4Cat, which you can purchase here.

As often as prescribed by your veterinarian. If you are monitoring a chronic condition or own an at-risk pet, please follow the instructions as prescribed by your veterinarian. If you are doing a routine test, then twice a year is the general standard.

No, only one cat should be tested per kit to avoid cross-contamination.
